Suicide and mental health are on top of people’s minds today.
You don’t need us to tell you that.
You Can Save Lives
Many say: “I’m not equipped to deal with this. Leave it to the professionals.” And they are right. Most shluchim are not trained and licensed to diagnose disorders or administer therapy, but you can mean the difference between life and death for many teens, students, and adults in your community. Just knowing the warning signs, knowing how to assess the risk of suicide, and knowing how to intervene to help that person get the help he or she needs, will turn you into a lifesaver. Hand these tools to the youth in your community, and each one of them will themselves become lifesavers for their peer groups and you will have saved dozens of lives.
The Initiative
JLI is embarking on an evidence-based youth suicide prevention initiative to train shluchim and their teen and young adult groups to become community first responders. Together with this professional training, we will be offering a multi-session learning experience for participants to explore insights from Torah and psychology to help them build coping mechanisms, bolster their self-esteem, and learn how to navigate their inner world.
The Best in the Field
To ensure maximum professional effectiveness, JLI has partnered with the top names in suicide prevention, including professor Jonathan Singer, president of the American Association of Suicidology; Sigrid Pechenik, who oversees all suicide prevention programs for the State of New York; the Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center in LA; St. Lukes Hospital Network in Philly; and several other prestigious therapists, researchers, and mental health professionals.
The Opportunity
This program has the potential to excite many local donors who would otherwise never give to Chabad. Their support can help you scale this program and broaden your reach in the community.
The Training
Shluchim who wish to join this program are required to first participate in a day of professional training. The West Coast training is being administered by Didi Hirsch, the leading suicide prevention clinic in the nation, and is being subsidized for shluchim by JLI in partnership with West Coast Chabad-Lubavitch.
