In keeping with the times, Sinai Scholars is upgrading its stipends to e-gift cards instead of checks.
Electronic gift cards can be processed quicker, get to the students more efficiently, and save much administrative work and mailing expenses. To top it all off, the gift card company is offering us cash back, which amounts to thousands in savings.
Upon program requirements completion, gift cards will be sent directly to the student’s email address on file. Students can choose from several stores or a Visa cash card. They may also request a physical card (for a $3 fee).
We are aware that some Shluchim valued the additional encounter when giving the check. We are also aware that many Shluchim were uncomfortable handing out money. In any event, we suggest seeing this in context of all the benefits of an E-card, and considering alternative causes for the additional encounter.
